The party was off the hook!:D But I must say with all the "inner circle" city hall employees retiring or taking positions in Trenton or elsewhere it was more like a party for the last time, ergo retirement party.

EVERY YEAR OUR PARTY IS OFF THE HOOK AND NAME ONE PERSON THAT WAS THERE FROM CITY HALL WHO WAS NOT A MEMBER OF THE LOCAL AND ARE RETIRING.

What's your take on the NYC TWU that is going to strand 7 million NYC residents tomorrow morning? They have been interviewing the rank-and-file and they don't seem to supportive of the union.

As a person who works with the union I would say that strikes are the only bargaining chip that a union has to negotiate good contracts and they should be supported by rank and file. The problem is that the rules are a lil different for public workers and there are extreme consequences to a strike and that may be why you have members who are not as supportive of it in addition to times be rough.

What members need to remember is that "the people united will never be defeated".

But I have a problem with stranding 7 million people in the cold right before Christmas.

At what point does a contract go from being good to over the top. Some of these Unions are really over the top and their main interests is MONEY. Nothing else.

I have a friend who belongs to a Union on his job. As a result of an accident he was out of work for a long time. Too long, they fired him from the job. They thought he was goofing off. Now here we are months later and they are in arbitration, he will probably get his job back and the Company will have to give him back pay for the time he was out.

In all honesty, this cat deserved to be fired. He was goofing off big time for months. There was nothing wrong with him by his own admission. Exactly what is the Union fighting for here?

The right of the member to have a second chance, unions are no different than attorneys a criminal is afforded innocent before guilty why not a worker and what is wrong with having a second chance to clean up a mistake after all none of us are perfect.

We can't, therefore, abolish systems that are designed to protect workers from being exploited, just because a small minority will take advantage of that same system for their own personal greed. Ultimately, those people get caught anyway.

I fully understand the need for second chances and the need to protect workers rights (I once tried to organize for a Union at a workplace that sorely needed it) but which arm of the Union actually investigates if the worker is abusive? Do they just protect and defend without full knowledge of the circumstances???? And if they do, are they right?

I will be the first to tell you that some members go to far and may need discipline but this is not up to the union to determine. The union has no choice but to come to the defense of the worker rather they are right or wrong hopefully though if the Union knows the employee is wrong they would counsel the worker before and after they have represented him/her as to where the consequences of their constent behavior will lead them in future offenses.
