Captain, the fact that you -- a law enforcement professional -- are saying this, sends chills up my spine. We are in a state of emergency. WCBS-88 radio's lead-in story for the six o'clock news today was on the culture of gun violence in Newark.
<<Love your brother, treat him as an equal
They call us animals -- I don't agree with them
I'll prove them wrong, but right is what you're proving them
Take heed before I lead to what I'm sayin
Or we'll all be on our knees, praying . . . >>

Even with the added presence of NJIT and Rutgers PD, people are not safe. Brazen.

but, Santiago would not be a bad choice to come in and try and end the madness with the help of the State Police, DEA, FBI, et al. And think you good people, why aren't those agencies workign within Newark's borders?

Has to be someone out there that doesn't bring as much "baggage." Santiago is a nut job. I loved how the NJSP ushered his a$$ out. His graduating class of 1 was a classic. All that because he liked the uniform.
Also, regarding the captain having sex in the RMP, was the woman also NPD? Conflicting stories.

an NPD employee, from what I here she was a street ho.

Just a hard-working citizen doing her job, which is more than I can say for Capt. Boswell.

I guess! And about your other post, Yes antiago would bring a lot of bagge and he is probably not the person for the job, but he would be a lot better than the amateurs leading the NPD right now.

Cops from NPD are saying the capt admitted going to ATM and took out $40 for the "victim"

Shooting suspect tracked to Irvington
Teen held in death of Newark student
Thursday, February 23, 2006

Star-Ledger Staff
A 16-year-old boy was arrested yesterday and charged with gunning down a Central High School senior as he left a Feb. 4 basketball game.
The boy, a former student at the school, was tracked down at a relative's house in Irvington at 8 a.m. by members of the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jamale Edwards, police said.
Authorities declined to identify the alleged killer because he is a juvenile.
The victim's mother, Shakeera Edwards, got the news late yesterday and felt a bit of relief. But not much. She wants prosecutors to charge the boy as an adult.
"I just want justice. That's all," Edwards said.
Jamale and his alleged killer had a "long standing dispute over personal matters" that culminated with the shooting, said Newark Police Capt. Derek Glenn. He would not elaborate.
According to Jamale's family, he attended the Saturday night basketball game between Central and Shabazz high schools. Afterward, outside the gym on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, he got into an argument with the alleged killer.
The boy pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the air, the family members said. Then he shot Jamale.
Struck in the torso, Jamale was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he died during surgery, police said.
The accused killer was known by many youngsters who attended the game, Shakeera Edwards said. Police said witnesses saw him fleeing the scene.
After getting arrested, the boy was taken to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center in Newark, where he was charged with homicide and illegal possession of a weapon, police said.
Now prosecutors will decide whether to ask a judge to move the case from family court, where juvenile crimes are handled, to adult criminal court.
Shakeera Edwards said her son, a talented singer and the oldest of three siblings, had planned to go to college after graduation this year from the Newark public schools' Twilight Program.
She says she's still trying to absorb the loss.
"I haven't started grieving yet because it still doesn't seem real," she said. "I still think my baby is going to walk in the door."
Yesterday's arrest will help her cope, she said. "But there will never be closure because my baby's not here with me."

"Even though the murder was committed in Newark, the suspect was apprehended in Irving ton, so this does not count as a murder in Newark."

THE JOB DEFINITELY WOULD BE COUNTED AS A NEWARK JOB. IT'S ALWAYS WHERE THE JOB HAPPENED OR WHERE A BODY IS FOUND UNLESS IT'S PROVEN TO HAVE OCCURED IN ANOTHER JURISDICTION. THE STATE POLICE UCR UNIT MONITOR THIS PRETTY CLOSELY.
IN ADDITION FOR ALL U BEAN COUNTERS OUT THERE. NEWARK ONLY REPORTS HOMICIDES WHICH ARE INVESTIGATED BY NEWARK AUTHORITIES. THE TRUE HOMICIDE NUMBERS WILL APPEAR WHEN THE YEARLY UCR (UNIFORM CRIME REPORT) IS PUBLISHED.
FOR EXAMPLE IF SOMEONE IS KILLED IN A COUNTY PARK, NEWARK WILL NOT COUNT IT AS THEIRS, BUT IT WILL BE COUNTED AS A NEWARK JOB WHEN THE ESSEX COUNTY AUTHORITIES REPORT IT TO THE STATE POLICE CRIME REPORTING UNIT.
THE SAME GOES IF A HOMICIDE OCCURS IN A STATE POLICE JURISDICTION I.E THE TURNPIKE, RT 78, 280 ETC. OR PORT AUTHORITY PROPERTY.

Jim, you really don't want the DEA and FBI in Newark. They are of another culture and have different priorities; they really would be of little help. However, the state police would be very much welcome. 900 cops are not enough to rid the city of those who have absolutely no respect for any laws.

Believe me, you want the DEA. They are effective and can do things no state or local agency is capable of.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT LTNPD WAS SAYING THERE. ALL OF THOSE SCENARIOS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ACCIDENTS SHOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS HOMICIDES UNDER UCR.
