The investigators in IAD need training and experience. What you fail to realize is that 90% of their investigations are for rules and regulations. A criminal investigation can’t proceed without the express permission of the Essex county prosecutor.

Micro management can lead to a cash payout if negligence is proven in a civil court of law. But, you will never see the supervisors turn on their leaders.

The only avenue left for us to purge the scourge was going outside the department and, as some of you have pointed out, it wasn't easy. The significance of the "flare" allusion is this, make enough noise and someone will have to listen. The noise has been made, the ball is in play and the rest will be told when it happens. The timing was also perfect....before the new TOP MAN coming in as of May 9th. He should have no problem dealing with this administration because none of the culpability will fall on him.

It just seems as though the few people that are doing the most dirt are also the ones that tend to want to mess with everyone else; especially those that aren't doing anything but their duty or who appear to really care. Investigating individuals on this forum, especially since more crimes are happening on a daily basis throughout the streets of Newark. We are not the criminals! I was under the impression that the Internal Affairs Division investigates misconduct of their officers. If you read previous post pertaining to misconduct that some of the officers mentioned, One of the code of conducts was supervisors who sleep with their subordinates. Is that considered a crime. Investigate that!

You know it's funny. Most people outside of any law enforcement arena have this usually correct impression that cops hate Internal Affairs because they are "rats" who only want to mess with good cops. In Newark, where it is very much like the Bizzaro world, you and other officers are portraying IAD as a group that needs to be revamped so that they can go after cops who commit actual crimes and not just those who have petty violations of the Rules and Regulations. Ummm....I just don't like to bring my work home with me. My work is "boring", her's is "uninteresting". My wife and I have a very great relationship...5 years strong to boot. Thank you for your concern. I only bother her with how it went generally and vice-versa. I'm glad that you are interested in your husband's work...to the point that you mastered his jargon. Even real cop-bunnies can't even do that. That takes a great psychological skill to do and shows you have an adapatable personality. For arguement's sake, let's say I agree with you. I want to report these drug-using cops, alcoholics and what-not, whoremongers, etc. Why, on God's earth would I do that when I personally don't have any evidence to support the contrary? If I even went through with it, based on your word, I would be laughed out of anyone's office I was complaining to because I only have statements based on heresay. So would any other good tax-paying citizen. Your posts are not enough for me or anyone else to do what good cops should do.

If you supposedly have this, evidence or know of folks who do, then please answer why you won't come forth with it to the proper authorities instead of just passing along water-cooler gossip? Is it because you are afraid that you [pardon me, your husband] would be breaking the Blue Code of Silence and be labeled as a rat? Or will the proof be posted on this forum...so that if it ever goes to trial, the evidence then be tossed out because then the defendants would cry BIAS? If there is in an fact a right thing to do, then do it. Otherwise it just sounds like slander.

You know to comment on what someone said earlier in the thread...it may be a small group of cops who might make NPD with it's $140 million budget the most hated department in Newark a very hated organization, by both good cops, cilvilians, City insiders and outsiders. However, when that small group is the loudest representative of your group, it drowns out all the really good cops and their good works. Personally, I see many in the NPD as a bunch of spoiled crybabies. That's only because I see the vocal minority. I am not alone in this thinking, many people much more important than I could ever be feel that way and more about Newark cops. It does truly make me truly not give a damn about them, though. Alot of them act so big and bad because they got a .40 Sig Sauer on their hip and a badge, yet know they are straight up punks without them. The "good cops" will stay silent and the "bad cops" get to do whatever they want. Yeah...I do agree with that quote...Evil truly does prevail when good men do nothing. In this case....good cops.

WRONG!! Not the outside agencies...at least not yet. You see, the matter has to be handed internally until THEY deem that it needs to be taken further. This has gone on continously for years without anyone taking a stand for fear of retaliation. Myself, "being brave and doing the right thing the right way" was letting people like yourself, who were clueless until our postings, know what your police department engages in. You see, we are the walkers among all the talkers. We have stepped it up and now, while facing possible suspensions, still are holding our ground. The truth is there. They know it and they don't know what to do with it except try and intimidate us an hope we go away. It ain't happening. We stand together, we fall together. Absolutely! I admire your courage to speak out on behalf of all of the "Good Cops". I agree with what you said when you say an internal investigation is needed before you go outside of an agency. However, if superiors such as (Sgt's) are being protected by their immediate supervisor's and the powers that be; than what's the point! ( Do you feel me?) I think Proud was saying that then if nothing is being done at that level, then you may have to seek outside assistance rather than following the "chain of command". That way the person can address the issues in a neutral manner.

You can focus on the negative part of my opinion, if you want to. As I have said in earlier postings, I have family members and very good friends who are police officers (in Newark and other agencies). I have also said that while
there are police officers who do great work and I would like to think they are in the minority, the bad apples, like the one guy who harrass me as a teen and tried his best to emasculate me infront of my then-girlfriend...and ended up failing miserably when I stared him down hard out of anger and saw the fear in his eyes that he could not conceal in front of his other colleagues. My girlfriend and I were fighting, and this pig comes up to us and asks us to move. Out of anger, I told him it wasn't his store, we were waiting for her parents to pick us up. I never cursed at him and put my hand to him....next thing you know I'm in the back of the car. I was never handcuffed, but he thought he was cute grabbing me by my underwear. Your first instinct, being a cop and all, will be I probably deserved it. Meanwhile, the only way I could have kicked his ass royally was for me to either be a cop myself and not get arrested but merely written up or suspended...some garbage, or just man up and do it and risk the jail time for assualting a police officer. This was over 10 years ago, and it still infuriates me...tremendously! Had it just been him and I...he would have taken me to to the local Park (his words) to "settle this" before dropping me off at my house to try to justify his actions to my parents. You will probably trivialize my experience, but that is the basis for my negative feelings on cops. However, I had to honor and pleasure of getting to know personally real good cops and they simply seem to be in the minority. I don't lump good cops with bad cops...I was told that guy is no longer with the NPD...damn shame because I would have loved to confront him now (unarmed...and non-provoking).

I don't hate good cops. I only resent and hate the cocky and rude attitude that seems to come with having a badge and gun...the looking good part....hey I hold my own quite nicely....wifey (mine...not yours :cool: ) has no complaints. However there is a minority of NPD that is very vocal in acting like a bunch of children that makes me and others wonder if the whole department is like that. That body being the wife of the business man who just the day before sat and watched that cop drinking and did nothing about it.

What should he have done we ponder? He should have called the State Police or the local police and reported a crime in action. Today his son and wife might have been alive.

Regardless of my abilities, officers who couldn't hold my nutsack have been given detective positions over me. Hell, I was charged for saying "ghetto" when I was assigned to communications while bosses have sat around like straight biatches getting emasculated at COMSTAT and taking it. I believe their purpose to be the gathering of information under the guise of an internal investigation. This way they can find out what they will be up against before it becomes discovery at any upcoming trials.

I have taken the police exam, and passed, but on the wishes of my parents as well as other considerations, I did not wish to continue pursuing a career in law enforcement. At the same time we will get a sinking feeling in our stomachs when we recognize those who had the chance to Stand and be counted out of fear didn’t have the courage!!!!!!!!

Well boys here it is. Your last hurrah before you head out the door. The only thing is I expected better. Pathetic. You draw up seventeen pages worth of charges and hand deliver it to my wife for the purpose of what? To cement your place in the annals of NPD history as the dumbest to ever wear a uniform? Then the guy who is the center of the theft investigation actually signs off on it? Let me ask you something, and be honest Finster. Remember, when I walked into the North District with the ex looking for Wonder Boy? I wish you could have seen the look on your face. What was going through your mind right about then? What do you think would of happened if he had been there? How would you have covered up that one?

In the end your Salt and Pepper team cover up the whole thing after I reported, to you directly, a DOMESTIC involving the precinct commander. Then you get that spineless detective Anthony Manata to wiggle out of the fact that he called her the "head detective" and hit me with false statement. Priceless. What about interviewing me to the fact of the whole affair? Ah, ever mind, we'll deal with that later.

The date has been set for police trials June 12th. Considering everyone that's been charged in the past few months it's hard to fathom how we get pushed up to the top spot so quickly. However, that's what any guy looking to get it done before his Viagra wears off would do, isn't it? The 12th hour, the "Hail Mary" attempt to get off the field and hit the lockers. Well, grab your @ss a Gatorade and get ready for some OT because if you think it ends here you are all highly mistaken. Pick up your phone and hit up your counsel goodfellas 'cuz you may need some redirection.

To everyone else reading this; I hereby invite you all to attend the fireworks on June 12th.
