This is the second store owner on Main Street that has been murdered since the Christmas Eve killing of the shop owner in Orange. Main Street merchants must be sick with this:

Clothing store owner shot, killed in NJ
Police hunting for suspects
Eyewitness News
(East Orange - WABC, January 3, 2007) - A store owner was shot and killed in New Jersey Wednesday.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is calling the shooting a homicide.
The incident reportedly happened at a clothing store on Main Street, near Winnans, between 2:30 and 3 p.m. in East Orange.

Police do confirm they are hunting for a shooter, but say they have no suspects.

Witnesses say one or two men walked into 353 Clothing and demanded something. Then they say someone pulled out something, believed to be a gun, and then ran from the store.

He opened up this store thinking he would find a way out of the street life even opening up other stores and giving jobs to other young men that lived in East Orange (Lenox Avenue to Amherst Street) in hopes that it would encourage them to do the same.

Please keep my best friend and her family in your prayers, Monk as he was known in the streets was her youngest brother from her mother and he was the only son and baby boy to his mother, Monk was from lenox and south walnut, As Octavia said Monk went from a street hustler to Owner and operator of his clothing store,he also had his dealers license and sold cars. He leaves behind his live in babymother/girlfriend and 4-5 kids.

He was shot 9 times in the front and back. It's believe Robert(Monk) knew his killer

he was a good man/friend to those at EOHS and in the City of East Orange that knew him. My best friends brother worked with Monk after he was released from prison. Monk helped many in the area whether it was $1 to a job.

This is truely sad to see how we are taking the lives of black men. What's more messed up is that it's probably black on Black.

I ask people; where is the OUTRAGE. We say March when a cop shoots us. Where is the damb outrage when we attack plan on self?

RIP My Brother.

You have written the solid truth, Chad. Not to trivialize this tragedy in any way, but it brings to my mind the famous quote of the cartoon character, Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us."

WOW!

This is terrible! Often times when a person has led a certain lifestyle and they get out of the game and try to better themselves, people become envious of their success.

As you stated Karimah, the victim probably knew the perp and without any remorse took another human beings life.:(

Good News to a tragic endings.

Police have a suspect in custody for the killing of Monk. The gentlemen in question, set his uncle on fire this weekend on Lenox, where Monk grow up at. This individual is related to Monk , perhaps a distance cousin. But they all grow up together. It is alleged that monk and this individual had an altercation which eventually lead to Monk's death.

Good Job, East Orange Det. for a speedy apprehension.

I guess the 3 Prayer Vigils, and Rallies served a purpose, somebody said something, and that's the Type of Justice that we should want, Justice for the Family Justice for the Community, and Justice for the People.

Can you see what happens when Community and Police work together, Killers get Caught, suspects get Busted.
Great Job EOPD, But even Greater Job Community.

Please take no offense to this TE, but what did the 3 vigils and rallies do to find a relative that killed this young man??? Not for nothing, I would think that good police work and talking with the family and friends WOULD have (and did) solved this horrible tragedy. How do you take claim for the ending of this incident? And please by no means take offense to this, I am just asking a question.

I am all for given credit where credit is due... but this is a little over the line for me, to say the least. I do applaud the EOPD for resolving this incident so quickly and unfortunately it was a family member involved. I hope the ECPO will be able to handle this case efficiently and keep this joker off of the streets. If he was able to do this to his "FAMILY" imagine what he would be able to do to anyone on the streets :(

Number 1---- the Muslims was the ones that held the Prayer Vigils and Rallies not Me I thought I made that clear when I posted Muslim Brothers and Sisters hold Rally.
Secondly the Family, the Muslim Community, Friends, and everyone who attended the Prayer was asking the Community to say something if they Knew something.

I really wish you would stop reading all my Post and reply's and trying to make everything about Me.

All I replyed was that It was Great to see the 3 Prayer Vigils and Rally bring some results for the Family, Community, etc.

WHY MUST YOU PEOPLE ALWAYS make it about Me-----------
Re Read reply nowhere in reply does It mention Me, or Enough Is Enough Coalition organizing the East Orange Memorial or Prayer, We were there to support E.O.Police, Community, and Family.

I think people are finally getting fed up with the violence in their communities, do they are beginning to come forward. The rally serves as a tool to bring people together to show cohesiveness. When you march for a cause collectively, you are bound to get results.

I'm just happy the joker is off the streets, it clearly appears he had no remorse for killing MONK!

TE2, KEEP THE RALLIES GOING!

I have a Clue you got it wrong re- read reply to Karimah and If you can show me where I stated that we done the Prayer Vigil, or If you can show me where I stated we organized the 3 rallies I will apologize, but My statedment still remains please stop making everything about Me.

The point was that someone said something which brought the police some assistance.

But Jazzy and others why did you not mention how terrible that the person set his family member on Fire this weekend, did you read that or did you only look for something TE2 SAID.

Dont you think that was Bad, not to mention the story say's that It might be a close friend or relative that done the Murder of Monk, where is your reply to that one.

A 24-year-old man arrested Saturday on charges of setting his uncle on fire, leaving him in critical condition, was charged yesterday with an even more serious crime -- the shooting death of an East Orange shopkeeper.

Lamar Tidwell was charged with the Jan. 3 shooting of merchant Allen Cuff in his shop, Clothing Wholesale & Retail Urban Ware store at 353 Main St., just a block from City Hall in the downtown redevelopment district.

"We think it arose as a result of some kind of altercation that took place between Christmas and New Year's," said Judy Gagliano, Essex County chief assistant prosecutor.

Gagliano said the killing, the first in East Orange this year, was initially believed to have stemmed from a robbery. A jacket with a label still on it was found outside the store, she said. But she said further investigation revealed it was a dispute.

She said Tidwell was already a suspect in the killing of Cuff, 34, of Orange, when he was arrested for allegedly using gasoline to set fire to his uncle, Richard Burns, on Fri day at 11 p.m. at the uncle's home on Lenox Avenue in East Orange.

Burns suffered second- and third-degree burns to his hands, abdomen and feet during the at tack, police said. Paul Loriquet, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office, said yesterday Burns was still in critical condition in Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

Tidwell was arrested Saturday at his home on Eaton Place in East Orange and charged with at tempted murder, aggravated arson and aggravated assault in the at tack on his uncle. Yesterday, prosecutors added charges of murder and weapons possession in the Cuff slaying.

Superior Court Judge Michael Ravin set bail for the murder charge at $1 million. Tidwell was being held last night in the Essex County Jail.

East Orange man who was set on fire dies
An East Orange man who was doused with gasoline and set on fire, allegedly by his nephew, earlier this month died early this morning at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, authorities said.

Richard Burns, 54, died of the second- and third-degree burns he suffered in the Jan. 12 attack, said Robin Lally, spokeswoman for the hospital.

Burns’ nephew, Lamar Tidwell, 24, of East Orange, was originally charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and aggravated arson. Those charges will likely be upgraded to murder, said Paul Loriquet, spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Tidwell remains jailed on $1 million bail, police said.

After he was arrested for the attack on his uncle, Tidwell was also charged with the Jan. 3 shooting death of an East Orange shopkeeper, police said.

Tomorrow will be the 1 year anniversary of Monk's death. I was with his sister and his two daughter's this weekend , we brought in the new years together. She is also the god mother to my youngest daughter.

The family is doing ok, but the mom has her moments. Today they got a phone call that an uncle past away, so much for starting a new year off, they havent even gotten over the Jan 3 killing and now they have to deal with this.

Saturday was the 2nd year anniversary of Monk. May he rest in peace and look over his kids and family.

Trial has not be set yet for the guy who is responsible for Monk's death or the death of his Uncle who he killed because he knew to much.
