View Full Version : Did not Mayor Booker run on the City was not Safe Platform
It truly amazes me that people are on here talking about the signs and the perception they send about Crime and Violence in this City, but if my memory is correct that is the platform that got Mayor Booker Elected, he ran on the City was not Safe, he ran on Crime and Violence, and how he would make that the focus of his administration reducing crime.
Did yall forget that------ did yall forget that candidate Booker was going all over the City saying what a terrible job Sharpe was doing about the Killings, the Crime and Violence in this City, he even went so far as after he was elected to say that there was 60 murders in Newark before he took office in July---- come on yall I know you remember that, matter of fact several of you on this site who actually live in Newark Voted for Booker because you wanted to see the Crime and Violence stop.
Now NTU say's what the Mayor said almost a year ago that the City is not safe and he is being attacked, but when Candidate Booker said it you Voted for him.
Now please don't get me wrong I am not attacking the Mayor here It's just Crazy how one man can raise the crime and violence issue, and get elected politics------------another man raise the same issue and get rejected.
I read many of your reply's talking about Del Grasso making this political, but now let's be for real here who really made it Political--- I will answer that for you, the one who got elected on the Crime, Murder, and Violence Platform that's Who.
I will be waiting in my Bunker for your attacks--------------------------
The issue is not "the city has a high level of crime." I think the Booker administration would be among the first to agree that, yes, Newark has an unacceptably high level of crime. My problem is that the NTU is spending thousands of dollars on raking the city's reputation through the mud without doing anything to help solve the problem of crime.

Tell me, what actionable steps to reduce crime are taking place as a result of the billboards? Are they doing anything other than putting fear into the hearts of Newarkers?
What's more, if these signs are still around after the Devils launch the Prudential Center for the 2007-2008 hockey season, don't you think that these signs will drive away business? They may as well say "biohazard" for the effect they'll have on suburbanites who might otherwise come to spend money here.
People from out of town come into Newark Everyday to work It has not stop them, have you seen all those people leaving the Prudential building at 4:30/ 5 O'clock do you see all those people leaving the Fed building, leaving all those office buildings on Broad Street, do you think they live in Bradley Courts, do you think they live on Keer Ave, do you think they live on Badger Ave--- no they live in Livinston, Maplewood, Irvington Upper Irvington that is, Montclair, Bloomfeild, Brick, and Franklin Township--- mighty funny they come to newark everyday and go home everyday.
Again Didn't Mayor Booker run, and Win on the City is Not Safe why did that not stop the out of townwers from comming here to work, why did that not stop progress of the downtown district.
Let's Keep It Real Here

Believe me Cuban, I'm protecting myself. My job is not complaining about the signs either, trust me, its not stopping the fimr from getting business. They like our office so much that our new york attorneys schedule most of their meetings in the newark office :D
Keep in mind i live, work and go to school in Newark, so i should be the one complaining. After 5 the corporate world don't care about Newark there in their trains and automobiles going home.
To set the record straight I work for a firm not a corporation.
Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then you should know that the NPD officers you see inside Gateway are paid for by the building management - they are off duty/retired.

Again what don't you understand, their not there not protecting me. Business owners is complaining that the billboards is damaging their business, that's some BS. We have more clients coming to Newark now, then before and not to mention Gibbons have also moved into Gateway bringing more business.
Mayor Cory Booker, who campaigned last year on a promise of reducing crime, says the signs fuel a negative image of the city, where a record 106 people were killed last year- the highest number in a decade.
" I know if I had tens of thousands of dollars, I wouldn't use them on billboards" Booker said " I would use them for after- school programs. I would use them to help teachers get supplies"

I really dont think the billboards will drive away business. They basically are saying "Stop the Violence" but I do believe they should have used that money to invest in some type of community/after school program created to give teens an alternative to the streets

It is an entity by itself - and is secured by "private" police forces. The City of Newark does not provide security in the Gateway Area. Additionally, Penn Station is secured by NJT and PA cops.
