You did tell us. I still think he was the lesser of two evils. Given his posts the last couple of days, don't you agree?

I realize OJJ isn't doing anything for the South. My question is, is anyone out there doing anything to muster any pull for the next election? Please don't say Ras or Kareem. I mean some fresh blood that hasn't been corrupted. I don't know of anyone. Any suggestions?

Does Ronald Stone live in the South Ward? If he does, that would be the non-political, non-corrupted individual who I would recommend. Whether he would be interested is another story. Otherwise, if you can't see it, you should at least be able to sense, behind the joking, that John James really DOES care about his city.

What's his incentive to be accountable? OJJ has ridden Booker's and his father's coattails to victory. He probably thinks that as long as he doesn't alienate those two, he's in again.
Clearly OJJ is the weakest of the lot, and in all honesty, I would hope that he didn't run again. He said he wanted to go to law school and perhaps that's where he belongs. But I wouldn't count OJJ completely out of it because of the many factions in the South. If everyone could get on board with a candidate to take him out, then I would say he's a goner. But the question is, can everyone get on board?
Doesn't David Blount live in the South? Or is it the Central. I would vote for him in a heartbeat. :D

I placed my comment to let him know he is killing the Southward residents silently.
Council Member, South Ward: Oscar S. James, II
Office of the Council Member, Room 304 City Hall; 973-733-3794
About Council Member Oscar S. James, II
Oscar S. James, II is passionate about issues concerning urban youth and education. He believes in dedicating time and resources into Newark's children and has chosen a path of public service to help him in this endeavor. Oscar and his family have a thriving history of participation in Newark politics. At an early age, Oscar volunteered on local campaigns, joined canvassing teams and worked the polls on election days.
Throughout his early childhood, Oscar attended local public schools in the South Ward. After graduating from Delbarton Prepatory School , he went on to Villanova University where he graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science. Oscar then returned to his hometown of Newark and became focused on improving life for all residents of the South Ward, especially the youth in the community. Sworn into office on July 1, 2006, Oscar became the youngest elected official in Newark's rich history.
Oscar's commitment to neighborhood development and revitalization is exemplified through his successful fundraising initiative that resulted in obtaining a total of $10,000 for a local playground to be erected under the direction of Reverend Eric M. Beckham of Clear View Baptist Church in the South Ward. Oscar received an additional $20,000 donation toward the project, raising the donation total to $30,000. Armed with an unrelenting determination to help youth, Oscar's outreach efforts extend to projects such as the Toy Drive with Pathways Academy . During the 2006 holiday season in the South Ward, this project benefited over 200 children who received in total $8,000 in toys, hats, gloves, and scarves. Many other initiatives under his leadership were also implemented to keep children off the streets and out of trouble. Oscar's will to serve goes beyond the general call of duty; at age nineteen he donated a kidney to his uncle, a Newark Police Officer.
Oscar has worked steadily with the innovative programs offered by Heru's Army, a local group comprised of entrepreneurs and community activist to better Newark , including its youth forum in which participating students voiced their concerns about their education. Oscar has also been involved with Heru's entrepreneurial program that concentrates on uniting Newark's business owners and local leaders. The programs have attracted the attention of various sponsors and the group plans to extend their outreach citywide.
Oscar is thankful to his mentors for encouraging his desire to provide opportunities for youth and to improve the quality of life for all Newark residents. He, however, applauds his parents, both Newark natives, for instilling in him a love for community involvement and a call to service in the city of Newark.

I think you are missing the point I don't think anyone has anything against Oscar Jr. but what right does he have to run for the south ward he has done Nothing he is not involved in the community and the only credentials he has is the fact that he is Oscar James son which BTW may not be such good credentials considering his betrayal of Sharpe who brought him to the table and being an opportunist. I think there are way more candidates that deserve to Run before Oscar JR even considers running for any seat as far as I am concerned. My opinion is that Ras should run for the south I would bet he could win this seat hands down as 5 stated the atlarge field would be too crowded.
go John Go
I say go for it whatever seat you are seeking and I hope your daddy supports you cause if he doesn't I will have a problem with that.
SHARPE... Don't be like Ron Sr. and turn your back on your son.
As a lifetime South Ward resident let me say from the door that this decision by Cory is just ridiculous, but just to be fair, can someone please tell me what has Oscar, Jr. done in or for the South that I can go put my hands on?
BTW: I like Oscar, Jr. personally, but how I feel personally is not the point.
As a South Ward resident and one who gives a damn about my ward, I applaud your candidacy. You and I are about the same age and from the same hood. I believe that our generation should take over and make things right. I too believe that you will be your own man. I know a lot of cats try to diss you for taking up for your dad, I personally don't have a problem with that. Despite me having a problem with some of your dad's way of doing things, I do believe you will try to be better.
In addition, I too respect the fact that you come here and post in your name for the world to read. For that alone you have to be respected.
If you have a serious plan to fight some of the BS that WE as South Ward residents have to go through, you will get my vote. I could never vote for Bradley ever again; I definately won't vote for Oscar James, Jr. (LMAO).
We may not always agree however I think you can make a good councilman. Just look out for the Progressive Brothers and Sisters. You and I know that dealing with our folks can sometimes be a pain in the as*, however, there are plenty of folks in Newark who really care about Newark and would put their full support behind you as John James instead of John James the son of Sharpe James. Just do your best to genuinely make a difference.
Maybe you should let cats know on the forum how they can contribute to your candidacy.
BTW: If you win, don't think that just because you're my homey on Newark Speaks that I won't be one of those pain in the as* residents when I need some assistance from my councilman. :D I won't ask for much... Just bring back the Thanksgiving Game between Weequahic and Shabazz and you'll win my vote for life....Do your thing...
Outside of taking a bullet in the @ss (or was that the leg?) what did this pitiful little moron do for the South Ward? Which Community Organization did he belong to?
And regarding this:
........ however, there are plenty of folks in Newark who really care about Newark and would put their full support behind you as John James instead of John James the son of Sharpe James........
He did not even have the b@!!s to run as himself or as his father’s son…… he tried to trick people into thinking he was Sharpe himself with the J. Sharpe James BS…..
Excellent choice………………….but you are not POLITICALLY BLIND. Are you???
