Nice article TE2 (some editing needed), but the message was delivered! I personally know Pamela Mcauley, good person.
Regarding the role of the police officer, this sometimes is a sticky situation. Sometimes women who are victims of domestic violence are afraid and when the police is contacted and arrive on the scene, they tend to change the story to avoid having the abuser arrested! The job of the officer can be tough when it comes to these types of calls.
I once did an internship at a battered woman's shelter and most of the women will stay in an abusive situation because of fear, insecurities, and retaliation from the abuser. Most of them will also admit that mental abuse far exceeds physical abuse.

Domestic violence calls are one of the most dangerous calls that police respond to. In fact, such calls are a major cause of police killings in America.

Good article, shameless plug!
You don't have to direct people to your article for the LOCAL TALK, but I am glad to read your article on Women and Violence.

Thanks TE!
Spoken....as you know, abused women often recant not at the scene but at the hearing/trial. I believe that if there is actual physical evidence (blood/bruising), the DA still proceeds with the charges. Wherever possible and rightfully so, there is zero toleranace for domestic abuse.

They will also change their story at the scene, ask any officer. Unless the officer sees visible abuse...cut, bleeding, black-eye, the arresting officer can act as the witness, and take the abuser into custody........ I have witnessed it myself!
