Funny you asked that question - I was thinking about that just yesterday. I know that this website cannot be operated for free; therefore advertising may provide some much needed infusion of funds for support. Advertising will also be good for local businnesess, especially as more posters and viewers come aboard.

I'm all for it!

No I don't mind;

However, you may won't to have something in place to view advertisemments before they are approved for posting. Folks may get to happy and we wouldn't want to see the wrong thing being advertised!

Yes I know.

If you have a link to an advertisement on your website, each time someone clicks it, the person who owns the website gets paid.

I have to get on board and create a website!:D

Pay to advertise Free information?

question: if I know an organization that is having an event...and I wanted NS family to know about it, no matter if it is free or a door charge.....I would have to pay NS to advertise it for me; that I couldn't post the information myself?

No, that's not what I meant.

Let's say your friend owned a website and on her website she had a link for google, verizon, macy's...etc.. each time the google link, verizon link or macy's link is being clicked on, your friend gets paid by that company for promoting their business.

Hope that helped.

Once PBS accepted advertisers, conveniently disguised sponsors, all changed; then we saw ads prior to movies in the cinema.

Newark speaks, you have my blessings!

No popup ads please.

I'll post this here too: I would like to have a little more time before an unread post is "marked as read." In other words, slow down the time that posts when the bold print of the title expires for unread posts. That way, maybe I'll make fewer typos. I won't have to rush a post "to print" worried about losing my place in reading through the remainder of them. Peace!

If advertising keeps the ball rolling on NewarkSpeaks, I'm all for it. I cannot imagine how this forum has continued to operate without it.

As long as the ads aren't obnoxious or don't slow down the site or be distracting, I'm fine wit that.

and whether the ads are banners or text, the banner ads will slow down because of their zize and the time they take to load or become visable. The smaller the ads, the less time it takes for them to display and the bigger it takes longer for them to display. The amount of space(files) available for the ads should also be taken into consideration.

Id like to see something like that stay local, 1st, I think the advertisers should be Newark based business, 2nd, the advertisers should be Consumer Driven with Monirtored by a rating system,
advertisers should be held accountable,

this is a great site, the discussions are very informative would hate to see GOOGLE/NJ.COM/EBAY etc. all over the site.

If they don't have ads, they should charge members a fee for using the site. The fee doesn't have to be too much;perhaps a dollar or two. per week or per month. Divide that amount with the number of members and Newark Speaks should generate a sizable income.:D :D

I'd rather pay a membership fee before I am subjected to unsolicited ads. I hate them on the Internet. They're everywhere and unavoidable in most places that it's refreshing not to see them here, but I understand why they are being explored. Do a poll on a Newarkspeaks paid membership and see if that's a viable option too.

Ads are always a good thing. If there are folks out there who wish to advertise with us on NewarkSpeaks, let them. I am confident you will find a way to place their ads so it does not get in the way of forum members and it will be tasteful.

Our forum is local to Newark but by no means limited to Newark. Local Businesses and those in surrounding towns would do well to advertise here.

Paid membership would likely remove anonymity…….is that what you want????

No it wouldn't, you can pay and still use a screen name. Yes, the administrators would know, but that's okay with me since they are required by law to protect their users privacy. They can't sell or otherwise reveal the identities of their users without a court order, which could happen even now.
