Wouldn't surprise me if it closed. Newarkers don't tend to spend big dollars on coffee. It's not the granola crowd. Personally I always thought the coffee was to strong and then when they stopped brewing mild after 1PM I stopped going.

my 2 cents. Thanks you.

I doubt it. SBUX is sitting on some prime real estate at Newark's crossroads, and I'm sure has a steady clientele from City Hall and Pru (at the very least).

Starbucks had a strategy they called "cluster bombing" -- I'm not kidding -- that would strategically drop three or four stores within blocks of each other to crush any local competition. I'm sure these stores will likely be consolidated before the company looks at removing themselves from metropolitan areas altogether.

That, and I'm sure Howard Shultz would personally get an angry call from Booker.

Default Starbucking

If they open a bookstore near Starbucks, that would be great.....unless, of course, the bookstore contains a Java counter.

It won't close. They said the starbucks that will close will be those with another starbucks in close proximity. That one will most likely stay put.

There's already a Starbucks in the Gateway though.

If its between the two, I would guess the gateway one would be the first to close... but, that might be because I never go in the gateway. Would you disagree?

Default Gateway

Probably since there is already a bunch of Dunkin Donuts and whatnot. but I bet more people use the Gateway one than the Broad St one.
